Albany is the capital city of New York State, located approximately 150 miles north of New York City on the west bank of the Hudson River. Albany’s population as of 2020 was 99,224. As the state capital and the seat of Albany County, the city serves as a major center for government, education, and culture in New York’s Capital Region.
